PREAMBLE
Government Arts and Science College, Kangeyam was established in 2013 by introducing basic degree programmes in Tamil, English, Commerce, Mathematics and Computer Science. It is affiliated to the Bharathiyar University. When it was established, it was the only government institution in Kangeyam that has provided higher education. The institution benefits the first generation learners who belong to socio-economically and educationally backward sections of the society in and around Kangeyam Taluk. The institution is located in a sylvan and idyllic surrounding with a campus of 16 acres. The institution is situated 10 km away from the town on Kangeyam – Erode highway. The institution aims to mould the student community who hail mostly from the marginalized and weaker sections of the society. The aim is to guide the students constructively towards national goals by upholding the values of secularism, national integration and social commitment. The primary goal of the institution is to enable the students to cope with the demands of the contemporary global scenario through effective transaction of the curricular and co-curricular aspects. Academic excellence, personality development and social orientation are our guiding principles. We strive to develop a strong foundation of ethical principles in our students and make them academically excellent to acquire global competencies with the help of newer technologies, so that they can substantially contribute to national development.
The strength of the institution is its qualified and committed faculty members and industrious administrative staff. The state of the art infrastructure like the well equipped college library with INFLIBNET facility, interactive smart classes, high-speed Wi-Fi internet access 24/7, EDUSAT facility, availability of computers in a student ratio of 1:4, Digital Language Lab, UGC Network Resource Centre, Centralized Computing Facility, facilities for scanning, printing and copying, the various programmes and cells funded by RUSA and state government. The institution that possesses the good academic ambience infuses the enthusiasm in students to learn latest advancements. The college has always been in the frontline in fulfilling its social goals in terms of educational attainments and producing a newer generation of highly committed student community. HistoryThe Great Poet Valluvar says “யாதானும் நாடாமல் ஊராமல் என்னொருவனும் சாத்துணையுங் கல்லாத வாறு”. In order to implement such a noble policy, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to start 12 new arts and science colleges in the academic year 2013-2014 with the aim of making the poor students of the state get their higher education in their own homes. Subsequently, a new Government College of Arts and Science was started as a realization of the long-held dream of the people of Kangeyam. Ordinance Status No.97. Higher Education G-1 Department Date : 14.06.2013. The college started functioning in Govt School, Kangeyam City. The college is functioning from 05.08.2016 in a new three-storied building situated amidst 16 acres of land at Mullipuram on Kangeyam-Erode Road in a very picturesque setting. Also, RUSA has provided Rs.4 crores for the purchase of computer labs, language lab and other development materials for all departments and hence it is considered as Model Degree College. The Departments of Tamil, English, Commerce, Mathematics and Computer Science with undergraduate programmes were started in the academic year 2013-2014. The courses B.B.A. and B.A. Economics were started in the academic year 2017-2018. The Post Graduate courses M. A. Tamil. M.A. English. M.Com. and M.Sc.Mathematics and M.Sc.Computer Science were started in the academic year 2018-2019. Ph.D. Courses in Tamil, English, Commerce, Business Administration, Mathematics and Computer Science have been started in the academic year 2018-19.

College EmblemOur college logo bears the name of the college in the middle. On the upper left side of the center is the Sivanmalai temple, on the right side the majestic Kangeyam bull, on the lower left side a coconut oil mill and on the right side a towering coconut tree. These four symbols enshrine the long-standing historical pride and legacy of Kangeyam. In order to transform the student community into intellectuals, creative thinkers, entrepreneurs, the three great words: Knowledge, Creativity and Research are printed in the front under the symbol. -

Principal's ProfileDr.S.F. NASEEM JAN, an accomplished Principal of the institution has completed her M.A History (Gold Medalist) and M.Phil from Vellalar college for women, Erode, and Ph.D., in “Social and Cultural History of Tamil Nadu Muslims – 712 BC-1947 AD” in 2005 from Government Arts College, Coimbatore. She began her career at L.R.G Government Arts College for Women in 26.08.1996. She is a hard core academician who believes in powerful teaching and practical learning that transform students into skilled professionals. Dr.S.F. Naseem Jan has 27 years of teaching experience. She is an optimist who believes in close connectivity with students and teachers. Her commitment is distinct having an intense sense of social responsibility in bringing up the young students through academic and co-curricular activities. She continues to strive for the welfare of the institution to achieve our vision.
